DIY Chai Tea Mix

Making chai tea at home is a snap when you have a simple, go-to mix on hand. Try this DIY chai tea mix to make lattes, iced chai or just regular old chai tea.

Chai Tea Mix

As much as I can’t live without coffee, I probably am more addicted to tea. A few years ago, I had big dreams of tea ownership. I wanted a fancy tea pot, an infuser, a tea ball. I’d frequent Teavana, dreaming about all the flavors I’d drink. Raspberry pineapple concoctions, poured into a cute cherry blossom tea pot. Then I priced it all out and decided that simple tea bags would suffice. Because I am cheap. And stubborn. Expensive teas can suck it (just kidding. If I hit the lottery tomorrow, I’d buy lots of teas and stock them in a cute cabinet filled with antique tea pots. I’m a sellout).

There is a positive to all of this. Chai tea mix is relatively inexpensive to make at home. A few simple items that you may already have on hand mixed into a jar is all you need. If you don’t have all of the spices on hand, you may need to make the initial investment. But once you’ve got them, you’ve got them. Trust me, you’ll find a use for those cinnamon sticks and cardamom pods (cardamom is the greatest, ever. Just sayin’).

To actually brew the tea, just toss the ingredients into a pot with about 6 cups of water and two regular tea bags. The spices from the mix will infuse with the tea and you’ll end up with perfectly spiced chai tea. It’s cheaper than buying expensive tea at the mall, right?
