Lemonade is a great summery drink to have on hand at all times. And when it is pretty pink lemonade, it is even better.
Pink lemonade is the Jake Ryan of the lemonade world. It’s pretty, for sure. And you want to be seen with it in your hand. But when it all comes to light, there’s really not much to it.
Believe me, it’s painful to say that about Jake Ryan. But for me, the light was shed on him a long time ago. I didn’t always find him vapid and shallow. A high school English teacher made me this cynical bitch who can no longer fully enjoy Sixteen Candles for all it is worth. Jake Ryan likes Samantha because she is always looking at him. Those are his exact words. He openly notes that he could “get a piece of ass” any time he wants. So yeah, he’s a real charmer.
Clearly, Samantha loves him for the same reason we all do. He’s pretty. Easy on the eyes. So cool. And that’s kind of how pink lemonade is, in a way. It’s pretty. The kind of drink you want to carry around and sip all summer, because it is pretty. When it boils down to it, there isn’t really a lot to pink lemonade. A good cup of freshly squeezed lemon juice, simple syrup and a lot of cool water. Then, the main ingredient that makes it pink – Grenadine. Just a few splashes of the sweet syrup gives you a nice pink hue and a huge depth of flavor. It adds a little somethin’ somethin’ to your lemonade.
Ingredients
- 1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
- 1 cup water
- ¾ cup sugar
- 3 Tbsp. Grenadine
- 6 cups water
Instructions
- Combine water and sugar in a sauce pan over medium heat. Heat until sugar fully dissolves. Pour sugar mixture into a pitcher.
- Pour lemon juice and Grenadine into the pitcher with the sugar. Top with 6 cups water.
- Refrigerate for at least an hour before serving.
This will forever be Jake Ryan Lemonade ; )
I love it!
Oh, my goodness … I have always felt this way about pink lemonade — it is pretty but there’s just nothing to it. But that doesn’t make it any less fun … kind of like Jake Ryan.
Absolutely!!! You get me!
I’m so glad I happened upon this. My son has been begging me to make homemade lemonade. I think we’ll give this one a try.
Great! I hope you love it!
I love it, the Jake Ryan Lemonade! It’s true, pretty, but simple, LOL!
That’s the new name. The Jake Ryan. Maybe with a little vodka splashed in, perhaps?
I did not know that grenadine is what gave pink lemonade that pink color, makes sense. Looks great!
Grenadine is my favorite, both for the color and taste. I love tossing it in here!
Take me away. This delish drink takes me to a relaxing summer day! Yum!
I am just DYING for those summer days, for sure.
It does look so pretty! Yummy!
Thank you!
This looks yummy! Im gonna try this!
I hope you do!
Pretty indeed! I heart pink lemonade!
Me, too!
This makes me want to be on the beach sipping this drink…
I could definitely be beaching it up right now!
This looks super refreshing!!
Definitely!
It’s 102 where I am. 102! Gimme this stat!
WHAT?! 102?! I will be shipping this to you a.s.a.p!
Boy, talk about taking me back in time. I haven’t thought about that movie in years. I have to admit that I’m so not a fan of Molly Ringwald that I can’t enjoy her stuff, even when the boys are pretty.
Oh man… So where do you stand on Andrew McCarthy?! He was always paired with Molly and was fantastic! I absolutely adored him! Especially in Mannequin but that is an entirely different story…
I had no clue what made pink lemonade…pink. My daughter will be SO happy I found out! Ha! Great flashback – those movies were so fun back in the day!
Back in the day and hopefully still today! I’ve been known to watch a serious 80s movie marathon.
I LOVE lemonade in the summer. This looks great!
Summer lemonade is the best!
Love this! There’s nothing quite like a glass of lemonade on a hot summer day!
I totally agree!
I love the color of this lemonade : ) You know I’m a sucker for pretty things! haha Such a fun drink to have around this summer!
Absolutely!
But that’s what’s so great about Sixteen Candles – we can all relate. And we so want to be Molly Ringwald until we grow up and realize we want so much more than Jake Ryan!
Exactly! You totally get me.
I’d probably cry if someone ruined 16 Candles for me. But you know what? The older i get, the more I just wanna shake Molly and say “hey, it isn’t always about you! Life is bigger than you!” But I was that exact 15-year old chick, too. Oh, Molly.
I definitely wanted to cry when the movie was ruined for me. But in retrospect, he was totally right! I DO want to shake her!
I love it – the Jake Ryan Lemonade…it’s pretty in pink…or is that another movie of the same era we could discuss?
Oh, we can definitely discuss ANY 80s Molly Ringwald movie. I’m game!
I love the 16 candles reference! So true!
I love how pretty pink lemonade can be!
Sixteen candles was pretty much my favorite movie for years! I couldn’t resist.
Pink is my daughter’s favorite color!
Mine, too!
Totally craving a big glass of lemonade now! Yum!
I’m glad I could do my part.
Okay, so I must admit that I’ve never actually seen 16 Candles (sorry! I know that’s terrible). But I can totally appreciate the “pretty boy” aspect of this pink lemonade, nonetheless. It looks wonderful, and there’s nothing wrong with a simple, but delicious recipe.
Ok, we need to have a cheesy girls 80s movie night! 😉
